On April 22nd 1970, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson created Earth Day. He wanted people to focus on the environment, air and water pollution. It grew into a global movement, bringing the world together to try and keep the Earth clean, prevent global warming, and preserve nature for future generations. Happy Earth Day!

Butterflies are beautiful, and seem so delicate. But did you know they drink pee? Entomolgist Phil Torres, documented butterflies in the Amazon drinking a puddle of urine. They needed the sodium to survive. They’re also known to drink turtle tears, and if you’re on a sweaty hike, a butterfly might find you tasty!

Do you know someone who’s trying to quit smoking? Tell them to sniff pleasant odors! Everyone knows smoking is really bad for your health, but it can be hard to stop. Researchers found that deliberately inhaling a nice aroma, can reduce the urge to light up. It’ll sure smell better than cigarettes!

Happy Easter! Today Christians celebrate the resurrection, when Jesus Christ rose from the dead almost 2000 years ago. New life and Spring are represented by Easter bunnies, and colored eggs! Passover is celebrated this week by Jews, a festival commemorating when the Israelites were freed from slavery more than 3000 years ago.

This week, a Canadian company took High Five Day seriously. The Johnston Group in Winnipeg, set a world record for most high fives in a relay in 3 minutes. The 33 employees practiced for months, and it paid off. They were able to complete 509 high fives! I wonder if they celebrated, by giving each other high-fives!

If you visit Elsie’s, a deli in New Jersey, don’t expect to get a sandwich made with bread. The Haddon Township restaurant, has replaced all the bread with pickles! The big dill pickles are sliced in half and scooped out, to hold plenty of fillings. They need a few toothpicks to keep them together!

How did you spend your Spring Break? Middle school student Avery Fauth, visited North Topsail Beach in North Carolina. She had been searching for shark teeth in the sand, when she hit the jackpot. Avery found a megalodon tooth the size of her palm! The 65-foot-long prehistoric sharks, died out over 2 million years ago!

Pennsylvania has cast their votes for an official State Amphibian. The Eastern Hellbender salamander is the new aquatic ambassador! The giant nocturnal salamander grows over 2 feet long, and has loose wrinkly skin, covered in mucus. It’s also known as a lasagna lizard, mud devil, Allegheny alligator, devil dog, or snot otter! What awesome nicknames!
