A new poll shows that 73% of kids, want to spend more time with their parents, and that 70% of parents wanted to spend more time with their kids! But while kids wanted to go to the beach or a movie, parents wanted to go shopping or eat meals together. Have some fun with your parents!

Yay for Elephants!

Elephants are the largest land mammals in the world. Their skin is an inch thick, they can weigh over 12,000 pounds, and grow 10 feet tall. They eat 300-600 pounds of food a day, with around 220 pounds coming back out as poop. Celebrate these amazing animals, for World Elephant Day!

Today is Vinyl Record Day. These big flat discs with a spiral groove, store sound. Dig out a record player and dance! Group Hug

The Asbury First Methodist Church, in Rochester New York, wants to spread the love. They tried to break the world record for the longest hug relay, but fell short of the 1300 participants needed. The important thing was not breaking the record, but bringing people together with an act of peace.

Say Cheese, Lil Quokka

Rottnest Island in Australia, has become a popular destination for people to take selfies. That’s because it’s home to adorable quokkas! The marsupial is related to the wallaby. Quokkas  are friendly, so while tourists should not touch them, it’s encouraged to take pictures with them. It raises awareness of the vulnerable species.

Did Someone Say Wish?

The Perseid meteor showers will hit their peak tomorrow. Earth passes through the comet Swift/Tuttle’s tail, and bits of the comet burn up in Earth’s atmosphere, creating blazing meteors. Because of the full moon, only 15 to 20 shooting stars per hour, will be visible. Most Perseid meteors are tiny, weighing only as much as a paperclip.
