Leathery-Winged Theropod Discovered

A dinosaur that lived in China during the Jurassic period, 163,000,000 years ago, probably had leathery wings. Ambopteryx longibrachium was about 13 inches long, and is one of the first types of scansoriopterygyid dinosaurs to show evidence of bat-like wings, instead of feathers. This type of wing has been seen in pterosaurs, but rarely in theropods.

Jaqueline Evans spent 5 years pushing for the Marae Moana laws, that protect the waters around the Cook Islands from pollution, seabed mining, and overfishing. She’s receiving the 2019 Goldman Prize for Islands and Island Nations in recognition.
