Cold Weather Fun

There are lots of fun things to do in cold weather. Make candy by boiling pure maple syrup and pouring it onto clean snow. Watch a balloon deflate outside and re-inflate indoors. Try blowing bubbles high in the air and watch them freeze on the way down! Just wait until it’s not dangerously cold!

Polar Vortex Brings Cold Blast

Parts of North America are experiencing arctic temperatures from a polar vortex, which is the wind circulating around the North pole. Sometimes a stream of air escapes, and heads south. In the U.S., the Midwest and Northeast will be the coldest, hitting minus 24° Fahrenheit. Factor in the wind, and it will feel like 50° below 0!

WiFi Could Power Your Devices

Can you imagine life without having to charge your phone’s battery? Scientists are working on it! A device called a rectenna, converts electromagnetic waves, like WiFi, into electricity. The rectenna is then attached to a thin, flexible sheet, to power electronic devices. Someday, you won’t have to look for your charger anymore. Yay!
