Triple Dose of Cute

The Taronga Zoo in Australia, is home to a new trio of cuties! Red panda triplets named Rohan, Ishtar, and Mishry, are just starting to come out of their nest box. They’re about 3 months old, and are the first red panda triplets ever born at that zoo. They are absolutely adorable, times 3!

A man in Maryland often buys lottery tickets, but he only checks his numbers every month or two, when his wallet gets too full. He  recently cleaned out his wallet, and found several winning tickets. One was worth 1.2 million dollars! He’s going to buy a home in the country, and vacation, debt-free!

Tons of Toads

Palm Beach Gardens Florida, has been overrun by toads. Thousands of poisonous cane toads cover every surface, making it hard to avoid stepping on them! Also known as Bufo toads, they are not native to Florida. 100 toads were accidentally released by a pet dealer in the 50’s, and they must have liked the weather!

Today is Spinach Day. Popeye used to eat it from a can, to get stronger, but it looks more appealing in a salad! It’s also Purple Day, started by 9 year-old Cassidy Megan, to increase epilepsy awareness. Epilepsy affects 65,000,000 people around the world. Wear purple to show your support!

Herodotus Was Right All Along

The Ancient Greek historian, Herodotus, wrote about an Egyptian boat called a baris, over 1500 years ago. He described a cargo boat constructed like brickwork, lined with papyrus, with a hole in the keel for the rudder. A 2500 year-old ship was discovered sunken in the Nile, which matches Herodotus’s description. He was finally proved right!

Sun Bears Copy Each Other

Humans often mimic each other’s facial expressions, in social situations. Smiling when someone else is smiling, helps with communication. Very few animals do this, aside from primates and dogs. Scientists have recently discovered, sun bears also copy the facial expressions when playing with other sun bears. Maybe it’s not as rare as they thought!

Around the World Charlie

This month, 18 year-old Charlie Condell became the youngest person, to cycle around the world unassisted. He started off in Bristol England 8 months ago, and rode his bike 20,000 miles, through 20 countries! His bicycle and belongings were stolen in Australia, inspiring people to help him with new gear. Around the World Charlie starts University in September!
