Kids at Mundelein High School in Illinois, came back to a big surprise after their winter break. There were gigantic books in the halls of the English department! Each teacher picked one of their favorite books, and the cover was printed on a mural outside their door. It’s like wandering through a giant’s library!

Today is Marzipan Day. Marzipan is made using almond meal, and sugar or honey. The paste can be rolled out to cover cakes, or formed into sweet edible sculptures, like tiny animals or fruits, realistically painted with food coloring. I’d like to make all the planets. You could make a marzipan pan of Marses!

A wild elephant in Thailand misunderstood the meaning of “drive-thru restaurant.” Auan-tia, an elephant who lives in the Chachoengsao wildlife sanctuary, was blocking the road and taking food from passing vehicles. He grabbed some sugarcane from the first truck, then continued down the row picking the crops he liked! I hope he supersized it!

You’re never to old to learn to fly. Betty Goedhardt had a fear of heights when she was younger, back when she was only 78. Someone gave her a lesson at Trapeze High for a gift, which forced her to overcome her fears. Now, Betty is 86, and the oldest female performing flying trapeze artist! Amazing!

A new study could help everyone study. Scientists found that drawing can help you remember things better than writing and rewriting them. Doodling pictures of your vocabulary words, drawing the items on your grocery list, or sketching a picture of a new friend using letters from their name, will help you remember them!

Morse code assigned a pattern of short and long taps to each letter, to communicate by telegraph before telephones were invented. Use it to send messages by flashlight, or tapping on your desk.

Sarah Gomez-Lane may only be in second grade, but she’s already working on paying for college. She won a $30,000 scholarship in the Doodle for Google contest! Sarah’s design of dinosaurs in the shape of the Google logo, was inspired by her dream of becoming a paleontologist. She also wins $50,000 for her school. Great job!

The UK will soon be running hydrogen-fueled trains. The clean trains, called Breeze, would emit only water, and zero harmful emissions! The sleek new trains will be quieter, and have more room for passengers. Hydrogen trains are already running in Germany. Breeze trains should be running in the United Kingdom by 2022.
