The Hot New Place to Live

Scientists have discovered a new ecosystem at the bottom of the ocean. Deep in the Pescadero Basin, cracks called hydrothermal vents, let out heat from volcanoes. The area, called Jaich Maa, has mounds of calcite pouring hot liquid into an upside-down pool. It’s home to new species that scientists have never seen before!

Say Cheese!

NASA’s InSight lander, which landed on Mars last month, just took its first selfie yesterday! The photo is a composite, made of 11 different photos stitched together. It shows the solar panels, weather sensor, and the deck full of scientific instruments. It’s a lovely photo, but InSight forgot to smile!

Who Cut the Cheese?

In Connecticut, someone has cut the cheese in a big way. Stew Leonard’s dairy store has the world’s biggest cheese sculpture, carved by Sara “The Cheese Lady” Kauffman. A 3,462 pound “Customer Service Rock of Commitment”, was sculpted from a humongous block of cheddar cheese! Now you can buy a slice of history!
