Denmark wants to include more than just nutritional information on their food labels. Their goal is to give every product a grade based on environmental impact. The grade will factor in transportation, pesticides, packaging, and greenhouse emissions that were created to get the food to the shelf. It will encourage companies to go green!

The hagfish is amazingly disgusting. Sometimes called the slime eel, the hagfish has no skull or jaws. It escapes predators by releasing up to 5 gallons of slime, clogging the attacker’s gills with mucous. It eats dead animals by crawling in through their mouth and eating the carcass from the inside out. Happy Hagfish Day!

The St. Croix Growers’ Association measured their top 10 pumpkins last weekend, and came out with a world record. The average weight was 1,912 pounds! The Stillwater Ohio group’s largest pumpkin tipped the scales at 2,091 pounds. You wouldn’t be exaggerating if you said that pumpkin weighed a ton! You’d have to carve it with a chainsaw.

New Zealand has named its “Bird of the Year,” and it’s a drunk pigeon. The kereru, also called kuku or kukupa, is 20 inches long, and makes impressive dives through the air with a distinctive whooshing sound. Wood pigeons eat rotting, fermented fruit that leaves them so intoxicated, they fall out of trees!

New employees were testing out the online newsletter system at the U.S. embassy in Australia, when they sent out a meeting invitation by mistake. The e-mail was a photo of a cat wearing Cookie Monster pajamas, and holding a plate of cookies. That would have been the best meeting ever!

Steel Warriors is a group that’s trying to keep kids from getting into trouble on the streets. Their outdoor gym in London, is a powerful symbol of turning away from gang violence. The gym equipment is built entirely out of steel from melted-down knives and blades, that were confiscated by the police!
