Residents of Trinity Bay in Newfoundland Canada rescued a pod of dolphins last week. The dolphins were trapped in shallow water, surrounded by ice that was spreading towards the shore. The fire chief, Stanley Legge, started clearing ice with an excavator. Boats continued to cut a path out of the harbor until the dolphins could swim free!

The Great Barrier Reef in Australia is the largest coral reef in the world, and it’s not doing so well. Rising ocean temperatures are the biggest threat to coral reefs. The Australian Institute of Marine Biology thinks sunscreen may be the answer! They’re testing a thin floating shield of calcium carbonate which will protect the coral from bleaching!

When Charlie Lagarde turned 18 this month in Quebec, she celebrated by buying a lottery ticket. Her birthday was also her lucky day, because she won a $1,000,000 jackpot! Charlie decided to take her winnings tax-free, as $1000 a week for the rest of her life. She plans to use the money to travel and get an education.

A little chihuahua in Kansas set a world record this week by giving birth to 11 puppies! LOL picked the perfect day to have her puppies: on National Puppy Day. While she had the largest litter of chihuahua puppies, a Neapolitan mastiff named Tia holds the ultimate record. She had 24 puppies in her litter!

Artist Anish Kapoor annoyed other artists when they discovered the deal he’d made. He is the only person in the world allowed to use Vantablack, the blackest paint ever made, for artistic purposes. So artist Stuart Semple released the pinkest pigment ever made. It’s available to everyone in the world- except Anish Kapoor.

If you love playing the Mario Kart video game, get ready. A real-life Mario Kart track is opening this summer in Canada! You can pretend you’re Yoshi or Princess Peach as you race go-karts around spiral ramps at the Niagara Speedway. The elevated track uses 10,000 bolts, 300 tons of steel, and zero power-ups.

A museum in Sydney Australia was surprised to find that a coffin they’d thought was empty for 150 years, actually held a mummy! The 2500 year old sarcophagus had been donated saying it had mixed debris in it. The skull is filled with resin, similar to King Tut’s skull, so Egyptologists are excited to study it!

Can you jog 50 miles? Can you juggle? Can you do both at the same time in less than 8 hours? Rick Kwiatkowski from Charlottesville Virginia did it! He broke the world record for fastest 50 mile joggling. The International Jugglers’ Association holds Joggling World Championships every year in Springfield Massachusetts, so start practicing!
