The Buzz About Buzzard Day

Every year, Hinckley Ohio celebrates spring and the return of its buzzards. Also known as turkey vultures, they’ve returned to the cliffs and caverns of Whipp’s Ledges like clockwork every March 15th. The town always hosts a Buzzard Day for visitors the following Sunday with lots of pancakes. The vultures just eat dead animals!

That’s Moray Amore

Australian diver Valerie Taylor has an unusual pal. She became friends with a moray eel living in the waters near Banda Island Indonesia! She’s named the 6 foot-long eel Honey. Honey loves to eat fish snacks, be held and have her belly rubbed! Valerie and Honey have now been friends for years!

Teen Fights Potato Blight

Student Benjy Firester won the $250,000 Regeneron Science Talent Search by developing a computer model that could save farmers time, money, and potatoes. It predicts how weather patterns spread the blight fungus spore. Blight causes billions of dollars in damages to potato and tomato crops each year, but Benjy’s program may help farmers prevent it!

Happy Paddy’s Day!

It’s Saint Patrick’s Day, time to celebrate Saint Patrick and one very special Paddy! Saint Patrick was British, but became a Christian missionary in Ireland in the 5th century. Saint Patrick’s Day has become a celebration of all things Irish, from shamrocks to leprechauns to the color green! Happy Paddy’s Day!
