The Parley for the Ocean organization tries to find uses for plastic waste before it ends up in oceans or landfills, and a pair of shoes uses about 11 bottles worth of plastic.

Scientists are using x-ray vision to read an ancient book! A religious hymn book from the 11th century was written on parchment that had been used before. The book was originally written in the 6th century, filled with the medical teachings of Galen of Pergamon. The ink had been scraped off, but x-rays can still detect it.

A Malayan Tapir calf was born to Mom Bertie at the Minnesota Zoo. The baby looks like a furry black and white striped watermelon with legs! Malayan tapirs are endangered partly due to habitat loss in Southeast Asia from deforestation for oil palm plantations. Tapirs look kind of like a pig with a trunk!

Fittingly, it’s Albert Einstein’s birthday and Pi Day. The physicist and cosmologist expanded our knowledge of black holes, the Big Bang theory, the universe, and beyond.
