Could the Archaeopteryx Fly?

New research by Dennis Voeten and his colleagues suggests that the feathered dinosaur named Archaeopteryx flew, but unlike any bird we’ve ever seen. It would have used its shoulders more, and looked something like the butterfly stroke in swimming. The bone thickness is similar to burst fliers like pheasants and turkeys.

Diu, a district in India with 56,000 people, is powered by 100% solar energy, generating more electricity than the district even needs! California’s solar farms have also been producing record amounts of energy. They sometimes send electricity to Arizona and other states so their power lines aren’t overloaded. Sunshine power is amazing!

Go Faster, Mama!

Ashlee Eskelsen from Tennessee wanted a challenge, so she ran a half marathon while pushing her 3 kids in a triple stroller. The extra 150 pounds didn’t stop her, and she broke the world record time for half marathon pushing a triple stroller by 30 seconds! Her kids helped too, yelling “Go faster Mama!” the whole time.

Do Dogs Like Earmuffs?

During World War Two, Dogs for Defense was formed. Today we honor dogs who served, with National K9 Veterans Day. It’s also National Earmuff Day; 15 year-old Chester Greenwood invented earmuffs in 1873. Don’t forget National Open An Umbrella Indoors Day, to test the superstition that it’s bad luck. Just do it in an open space!

Pi Day is Coming

People get excited about Pi Day, which is March 14th. The College of Idaho Math Club is planning a world record attempt with 600 people representing the first 600 digits of pi. The Boston Museum of Science set a U.S. record for the most shaving cream pies thrown at once. What are you planning for Pi Day?

A Circus With Heart

If you live in Chicago, you may have seen the Midnight Circus. This special show features acrobats, clowns, aerialists, and rescue dogs! Pit bulls Junebug and Rosie Ray are the stars of the show. All the profits from ticket sales are donated to parks in the Windy City, totaling  nearly $1,000,000 so far!
