Gilligan is a giant Pacific octopus at the Alaska Sea Life Center. She laid thousands of eggs and has been caring for them a whole year, and they are finally starting to hatch! The octopus babies are about the size of a pea, but will grow up to have 14 foot long arms!

James Longcroft wanted to sell bottles of water in the United Kingdom to raise money to provide clean drinking water in Africa. But the bottle had to be completely biodegradable and non-toxic to ecosystems, and inexpensive. Named Choose Water, the bottles are made of a special paper, and all profits will go to his charity, Water For Africa.

When robotics engineer Milind Raj saw a puppy in trouble on his morning walk, he flew in to help. The puppy was stuck in a drain in Uttar Pradesh India, that would have been too dangerous for a human to enter. Milind got his drone, attached a robotic arm, and piloted a puppy rescue!

During the ¿Que Pasa? Festival in Richmond Virginia, 1013 piñatas made of tissue paper and papier-mache were hung up along the canal, to set a world record for largest display of piñatas. After an exhibition, the piñatas will be filled with school supplies instead of candy, and donated to local schools.

A giant sinkhole has opened up in New Zealand! In an area known as Earthquake Flat, the hole appeared overnight. The 66 foot deep opening in the earth, is fascinating to geologists and volcanologists. The bottom is 60,000 year-old volcanic deposits, with millennia of sediment and ash layers rising up, and it’s all clearly exposed!

3 girls from Washington D C are finalists in a NASA competition. 17 year-olds Mikayla Sharrieff, Bria Snell, and India Skinner had to apply space technologies to earthly challenges. They invented a water purifier out of copper shards, filter floss, and drinking straws. It purifies water in school drinking fountains that might contain led!
