Merry Christmas!

Today is Christmas, a festival celebrated by billions of people to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. We don’t know the date Jesus was actually born, but Christmas has been December 25th since the year 336. It is marked with gift giving and Santa Claus, Christmas trees and lights, church services, songs and gatherings.

NORAD Tracks Santa

For most of the year NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, is in charge of aerospace and maritime warning and control. But on Christmas Eve, NORAD tracks Santa Claus! Glitter Goes Guilt-Free

Glitter is beautiful and sparkly but it’s bad for the environment. Glitter is made from plastic which takes thousands of years to decompose. It washes away into the oceans where microplastics harm marine life. The good news is that some companies are making biodegradable glitter so you can sparkle guilt-free!

Sesame Street Goes to Syria

The MacArthur Foundation awarded 100 million dollars to the International Rescue Committee and Sesame Street for their program to help young refugees. A version of Sesame Street made especially for Syria will be available for kids displaced by that country’s civil war. Hopefully watching Sesame Street can give Syrian refugees some hope and happiness!
