Sports Illustrated Kids has named Maxwell “Bunchie” Young its SportsKid of the Year. The 10 year-old from Los Angeles is a football and track phenomenon, scoring over 30 times this season. Bunchie’s athletic skills and inspirational attitude have already earned him a large Instagram following and a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois!

Basketball star LeBron James is excited about his latest accomplishment. In his hometown of Akron Ohio, the school board approved a new school founded by the LeBron James Family Foundation. The school will open next fall for third and fourth graders. I bet that school will have a great gymnasium!

An opossum in Florida partied a little too hard. She broke into a liquor store, cracked open a bottle of bourbon, and got drunk! The opossum was taken to a wildlife refuge where she was given fluids to help sober up, then released to the wild.

Astronomers recently discovered 72 new galaxies! Hmmm. Our solar system has 8 planets. Our Milky Way galaxy has 100 to 400 billion stars, each with their own solar system, which means 800 to 3 trillion planets. That means our search for extraterrestrial life includes over 56 trillion new planets! Researchers will soon be studying the planets for signs of aliens.

December 3rd will be the last supermoon of 2017. A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon’s perigee. The perigee is the point when the moon’s orbit brings it closest to Earth. Since it is closer than normal, it makes the moon look huge! Don’t forget to look for it this evening!

Graphene is a sheet of carbon atoms that looks like chicken wire. A pencil mark is made up of many graphene sheets stacked together. Physicists discovered that the atoms in graphene are constantly jiggling around. They hope to develop that motion into unlimited energy! Maybe one day your pencil will power your phone!

This week it snowed in Hawaii! Mauna Kea, the highest peak on Hawaii’s Big Island, got up to 8 inches of snow. It is more common for the volcanic peaks to get snow than you would think. Mauna Kea actually means White Mountain. I can’t wait to go sledding down a volcano!

Scientists unearthed 215 fossilized pterosaur eggs in China, including 16 that contained preserved embryos. Pterosaurs were flying vertebrates that lived 120 million years ago in the Cretaceous period. Researchers think the soft-shelled 3 inch long eggs were so well preserved because a flood washed them into the bottom of a lake.
