I’m Here for the Free Samples

One bear in Tennessee, must have wanted to quickly fatten up, before going into hibernation. A big black bear walked into the Sweet candy store, and helped itself to a variety of treats. The bear seemed to like Hershey’s Kisses and Charleston Chews the best. The Gatlinburg Police helped get the animal out safely.

Time for the Funny Farm

Do you love corny jokes? Get ready to quack up, because it’s Farm Joke Day. My favorite one is, What goes, “Oom. Oom.” Give up? It’s a cow, walking backwards. Haha, ha-ha-ha. How about, what do you get, when a chicken lays an egg on the roof? You get, an egg roll! R-O-F-L.

Shake Up a Batch of Butter

Today is Butter Day. It’s easy to make your own butter. Fill a glass jar halfway, with heavy cream. Put the lid on, then start shaking! The cream will start to get thick, and turn into whipped cream. Take a taste, then keep shaking. It will harden into butter, with a little bonus buttermilk!

Baklava Baking

Today is Homemade Bread Day. Find an easy recipe and start baking! While you wait for the dough to rise, you can go for a walk outside, because it’s also Take A Hike Day. If you have any energy left, try making baklava, a flaky pastry filled with nuts and honey, for Baklava Day!

Band Plays Deep Cuts

Miners have spent 68 years taking metal and rock out of the Kidd Mine, in Timmins Canada, but a band just put a little rock back into it. The Miners & Sons took their instruments down 8,086 feet and 11.31 inches below sea level, to set a world record playing the deepest underground concert.

There’s Been a Change of Plans

The Miami International Airport in Florida, saw some excitement yesterday. A passenger who was on a layover between flights, had a baby! Instead of continuing on with her next flight, mother and baby went to the hospital. At least the baby made its grand entrance before they were already in the air!

Practice Tolerance

Today is the International Day of Tolerance, first declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 1995. Tolerance is the ability to endure something that you don’t always like or agree with. As long as no one’s getting hurt, you can show tolerance with your little brother, your parents’ rules, or spinach!

The Squeaks Don’t Last Forever

Today is Clarinet Day. Squidward’s favorite instrument, is popular with kids joining the school band, partly because the case is easy to carry! Clarinets are part of the woodwind family of instruments, because you blow past a wooden reed. Listen to some early jazz clarinetists, like Sidney Bechet, Benny Goodman, or Woody Herman.

Rocket into the Record Books

The Orlando Science Center in Florida, is looking for participants to help them set a world record. They’d like to gather at least 250 people, to fly paper rockets at the same time. If you can blow a paper rocket off a straw, show up by 10 a m on Saturday, and make history.
