Claire’s Getting Used to Winning

The National Dog Show took place in Philadelphia last week, and the grand champion was a Scottish deerhound named Claire, for the second year in a row! Scottish deerhounds can stand nearly 3 feet tall. A Biewer Terrier was the newest recognized breed at the dog show, so 196 different dog varieties were competing.

Bavarian Cream Splat

Today is Bavarian Cream Pie Day. The custard-like filling is also delicious in donuts and eclaires. Coincidentally, it’s also Pie In The Face Day. If you don’t want to waste your delicious Bavarian cream pie, just fill a pie tin with whipped cream instead! It’s just as satisfying, and quicker to reload!

My Shoes Are Sprouting

Canadian Luc Houle, was inspired by the legend of Johnny Appleseed, who wandered around North America, planting apple trees. Luc designed shoes, that will grow into an apple tree when they wear out. Johnnys are simple canvas shoes, that have fertilizer and a seed inside. The discarded shoe biodegrades, and grows a tree!

Today we celebrate Native American Heritage Day. They were the original inhabitants, of the land that became the United States. Native Americans helped the European settlers survive, but they were not treated kindly in return. Learn which Indigenous people, once lived where you live now, at Native-Land.ca. Giving Welcomes

Because yesterday was Thanksgiving Day, today is You’re Welcome-Giving Day. It’s the polite thing to do! Plan your lunch: it’s Maize Day, the original name for corn. Since it’s Sinkie Day, eat over the sink, and you’ll have nothing to clean up! Finally, floss the kernels out of your teeth. It’s Flossing Day!

That’s a Great Price for Nothing

In the United States, the day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. It’s when many people start holiday shopping, and stores have big sales. If the crowds are too much for you, celebrate Buy Nothing Day instead. Some people even organize Zombie walks, wandering blankly around stores, filling their baskets with nothing!

Please Close the Door

A bear in New Jersey, is very polite. When Susan Kehoe opened her front door, there was a bear on the other side. she backed away, then asked the bear nicely to close the door. He took the door knob in his mouth, and gently shut the door. Susan named him Mr Doorman.

Move Along Asteroid

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, blasted off with a new PROBE yesterday. Its mission, called the Double Asteroid Redirection Test, or DART, is to nudge an asteroid named Dimorphos, onto a new course. Dimorphos is the size of a football stadium, so the probe will have to hit it pretty hard, to redirect it.

Blasé Parfait

Today is Blasé Day. The French word for jaded, being blasé about something means you’re unimpressed. An impressive parfait will fix that attitude, especially since it’s Parfait Day! That’s also a French word, meaning perfect. The dessert has layers of cream, fruit, nuts, yogurt, or anything else you desire, to make it perfectly delicious!
