Loggerhead Boom in Cape Verde

There’s good news about sea turtles, in West Africa. The nation of Cape Verde, which consists of 10 islands, has seen a 2000% increase, in the number of loggerhead turtle nests on its beaches. New laws against poaching, have helped more turtles survive. Last year, conservation groups helped guard almost 200,000 sea turtle nests.

Heroic Dog Rescued Koalas

During the bush fire last year in Australia, a dog named Bear, used his talented nose to sniff out over 100 injured koala bears. The Australian Koolie has been officially named a hero, by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Along with his award, Bear will get lots of extra pats and play.

Scientists are constantly researching new vaccines, to prevent illness. They’re also finding ways, to make vaccines easier to get. In the future, instead of getting a shot, you might be able to stick a patch on your skin. It may work faster, stay stable at room temperature longer, and best of all, no needles!

The Earth has imaginary lines marking longitude, that go up and down, and latitude, that go around. Every 15° longitude, is a meridian line, representing 1 hour of the Earth’s rotation. In 18 84, officials from 25 nations met, and decided 0° longitude, the Prime Meridian, would run through Greenwich England.
