Today is Make A Difference Day. You could do something helpful for your family, or useful in your community. You could participate in marches to make major changes in the country, or give a smile to someone who looks sad. No matter how big or small your actions are, you can make a difference.

Bring Your Own Blanket

There’s a new bus tour in Hong Kong, that puts you to sleep. That’s the whole point! The 5-hour ride, is designed for tired adults, who can only sleep well on the bus. Riders get a goodie bag, containing ear plugs and an eye mask, to enjoy on their 47-mile ride to nowhere.

Hug a Wombie

Today is World Wombat Day, celebrating one of Australia’s wonderful animals. Wombats are marsupials that look kind of like groundhogs. They’re about 3 1/2 feet long, and have a backwards-facing pouch, so it doesn’t fill with dirt as they dig underground. The coolest thing is, wombats have square poop! The cubes stack up nicely.

Practice and Patience

Today is International Stuttering Awareness Day. The speech disorder makes it difficult, to speak the words you want to say. Many famous people have overcome stuttering, like President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Emperor Claudius, Marilyn Monroe, and James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader! It’s hard work, but you’ll succeed!

Your Writing Looks Loud

It’s National Color Day! Wear your most colorful clothes, use your red pen, and eat colorful fruits and vegetables! It’s also Nut Day, so grab a handful of almonds or walnuts to much on. Then celebrate CAPS LOCK DAY, by using all uppercase letters while typing, for TODAY ONLY. It looks like you’re yelling.

Bear Wants to Be a Gamer Too

In Alberta Canada, a boy’s gaming computer got wrecked, but a pesky younger sibling wasn’t the one who did it. It was a bear! The bear climbed into their house through an open window, ate some cereal, and smashed the computer monitor. Maybe it was annoyed, because it couldn’t get the game to load.

No Boat, No Problem!

A couple in India, wasn’t going to let a little thing like a flood, stop their wedding. After the temple flooded, they moved the event to another hall with a stage, but the streets were also filled with water. Many guests swam to the ceremony, but the wedding couple floated there, in a cooking pot!

Garbage Patch’s Days Are Numbered

When Dutch student Boyan Slat was 18, he started The Ocean Cleanup foundation. They designed a device to collect the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an area of floating plastic trash, twice as big as France. The system removed 20,000 pounds of debris, in its final test. The Garbage Patch, can now be cleaned!

Witches, Pumpkins, and Cheese

Halloween is coming, and people are carving Jack o’lanterns, decorating with spider webs, and creating costumes. You can get in the spirit, by celebrating Pumpkin Cheesecake Day. Save some for me! It’s also Witch Hazel Day. People use leaves and bark from the witch hazel plant, to treat insect bites and other skin irritations.
