An Italian architect is designing a new skyscraper for Chinese city of Shenzhen. The 51-story building will hold office space, a supermarket, and 100,000 square feet of vertical gardens. The hydroponic farm will grow up the outside of the building, and produce nearly 600,000 pounds of fruits, vegetables, and herbs each year.

School of Love

People say love is in the air, but sometimes it’s in the ocean. Paul Dabill was flying his drone over the water in Juno Beach Florida, looking for migrating fish. He spotted a school of Jack Crevalles, swimming in a perfect heart formation. Luckily, he recorded video so everyone could see the heart-shaped wonder.

Space, The Final Frontier

William Shatner, who played the role of Star Trek’s Captain Kirk, just became the world’s oldest aztronaut. The 90-year-old Shatner joined 3 others on Blue Origin’s New Shepard, for an 11-minute voyage to space. He marveled at seeing our planet below, saying, “What you’re looking down on is Mother Earth, and it needs protecting.”

Ancient Diet Preserved in Poop

What were prehistoric Europeans eating during the Iron Age, 2700 years ago? Scientists analyzed ancient poop, that was preserved in salt mines in Austria. They found the same fungi, that we use to make blue cheese and beer today. In addition to beer and fancy cheese, miners ate beans, fruits, nuts, and animal products.

Animals Don’t Need Spare Tires

A bull elk, with a tire stuck around its neck for over 2 years, is finally freed. Wildlife officers tranquilized the elk, but couldn’t cut through the steel-lined tire. Instead, they cut through the elk’s antlers, to remove the tire. The 600-pound elk, which looks like a huge deer, is 35 pounds lighter now.

National Parks Feature Fossils

The US National Park Service is celebrating National Fossil Day today at many of their parks. Fossils are prehistoric plants or animals, petrified and preserved in stone.
