Today is Johnny Appleseed Day, the birthday of John Chapman in 1774. He traveled around the United States, planting orchards of apple trees. He ate out of his tin hat, which is why he’s often depicted with a pot on his head. It’s also Lumberjack Day, originally created as an excuse to eat pancakes!

When Swedish 15-year-old Greta Thunberg, started her weekly school strikes 3 years ago, she was raising awareness of the Earth’s climate crisis. Her Fridays For Future protests grew into a worldwide movement. Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of young people joined the Global Climate Strike, in over 80 countries, urging the world to take action.

Walking On Air

India’s Angad Daryani, has invented a new filter-free air purifier, that collects pollution from the air. The air purifiers can filter 300 cubic feet of air-per-minute. The collected particles are then given to a company called Carbon Craft Design, that makes floor tiles out of the material, trapping air pollution beneath your feet!

Footprints in the Sand

Archaeologists had believed the earliest humans came to North America, between 13,500 and 16,000 years ago. But a team recently found 60 human footprints in White Sands National Park, that were between 21,000 and 23,000 years old. The lake bed in New Mexico also preserved tracks from woolly mammoths, dire wolves, and giant sloths.

Lots of people think that changing their mind, makes them seem wishy-washy, but sometimes, it’s a sign of strength. Many people who didn’t trust the COVID-19 vaccine, are deciding to get it after all. They’ve seen enough evidence that vaccines keep people safer, to courageously change their position, and get vaccinated. Good for them!
