One Cow’s Wild Ride

You don’t normally find cows in trees, but that’s exactly where one cow ended up, after Hurricane Ida rolled through. As Louisiana flooded, the rising water carried a cow into some high tree branches. When the floodwaters receded, the cow was stuck. Rescuers used a chainsaw, to rescue the stranded animal.

Perseverance Pays Off

NASA’s Perseverance rover, collected a perfect rock core on Mars. Last month, it tried to collect a sample, but the rock crumbled as Perseverance drilled into it. The latest core sample is as thick as a pencil. It’ll be stored in Percy’s belly, until a rocket carries it to Earth in the 20 30’s.

That Bird’s a Big Baby

The superb lyrebird, is an incredible mimic. Birds in the wild have been heard imitating car alarms, cameras, chainsaws, and toy laser guns. R2D2’s voice was based on sounds from a lyrebird. A lyrebird named Echo, in Australia’s Taronga Zoo, has perfected the sound of a crying baby. He needs his pacifier!

Make Mom Dinner Tonight

Did you know today is Lazy Mom’s Day? Mom needs a day off to relax. No arguing or making messes allowed! Let her read a book while you make a special dinner, for Welsh Rarebit Day. It sounds like rabbit, but the recipe is actually melty cheese with spices like mustard, on toast.

Floor 160 Please!

Today is Skyscraper Day. What’s the tallest building in your city? The tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It’s 2,717 feet tall, which is over half-a-mile! Have you heard of plyscrapers? They’re made from wood! Strong cross-laminated timber, or CLT, is produced in Riddle Oregon, by gluing wood together. Neat!

Look What Followed Me Home

After Hurricane Ida flooded Louisiana neighborhoods with water, Amanda Huling spotted a new neighbor. A dolphin was swimming around, in the remaining floodwaters. Amanda contacted a rescue group, to make sure the dolphin finds its way back to sea, before the water recedes or dries up. It definitely wouldn’t make a good pet!

People Saved Thanks to Quick-Thinking Teen

14-year-old Lily Swanson, noticed a burning smell, while she was walking her dog in England. She decided to investigate, and found smoke billowing out of an apartment window. Lily quickly notified the fire department, and with her dad’s help, moved ladders to the windows, so people could escape while firefighters were on their way.

The Power of Dancing

A nightclub in Scotland, will be powered by dancing. A club called SWG3, plans to use the clubgoers’ own bodyheat, to power the building’s heating and cooling systems. The more people dance, the more heat they generate, and all that energy doesn’t get wasted! Any extra energy, gets stored for future use.
