It’s Uncommon Instrument Awareness Day!  It’s also National Mutt Day. Purebred dogs are great, but 2 breeds mixed together is twice as great, right? So a mixed-up mutt is best of all!

A highway accident caused a hot mess in New York. A truck full of produce overturned, covering the road with an assortment of colorful peppers. No one was injured, but traffic was backed up for miles, while people picked up pecks of peppers.

The Tokyo Olympics showcases the talents of many young athletes. 14-year-old Quang Hongchan, from China, is competing in women’s diving, off the 10 meter platform. 14-year-old Summer McIntosh, started strong by setting a Canadian swimming record, in the 400-meter freestyle, and 15-year-old Katie Grimes, is the youngest swimmer on the US team.

Today is Cheesecake Day. The rich, creamy dessert is so good, that if you give someone a piece, they just might hug you! That’s okay, because it’s also Share A Hug Day. Hug your parents and pets, to show them you love them. Give everyone else air hugs, from a socially distant 6 feet away.

The United Nations proclaimed July 30 as the International Day Of Friendship, to encourage the countries of the world to embrace peace. Celebrate peace and friendship in your own home by not fighting with your siblings! With all the peace and quiet, you can read a good book, in honor of Paperback Book Day!

Did you ever notice how quiet people get, when they get in an elevator? Well, today is Talk In An Elevator Day! Be bold, and start a conversation with someone. Since you have a captive audience, it’s a perfect time to tell a joke! At least say hi and smile, and make someone happy!

Eric Finkelstein needs to be in a really big room, when he plays ping-pong. He set a record, by making the world’s longest table tennis serve. His serve reached over 51 feet! The ball had to hit once on his side, then bounce once on the other side of the net. It’s pretty tricky.

The Olympics is full of extraordinary athletes, and many of them are still just kids. 2 girls competing in park skateboarding, are 12-year-old Kokona Hiraki, and Sky Brown, who just turned 13. They are the youngest Olympic athletes to ever represent their countries of Japan and Great Britain. They’re wheelie great!

Have you heard of Earth Overshoot Day? It’s the point in the year, when humans have used more of Earth’s natural resources, than the Earth can produce in a year. We’ve already reached that point in the year, and there’s still 5 months to go. Think about ways to make Earth’s resources last longer!

I hope it rains today, because it’s Rain Day! Go splash in some puddles as the Earth gets a big drink of water. Don’t miss dinner, because it’s Lasagna Day. I love those layers of pasta, cheese, and sauce! It’s Lipstick Day too. Pick your favorite shade, and flash a colorful smile!
