Today is World Emoji Day! If you send a text message, don’t use words. Just use pictures! There are over 3400 emojis, so take some time to scroll through all the newest ones! If you prefer pictures on your body, it’s also Tattoo Day. Time to plaster your arms with fake tattoos!

Ice cream tastes great on a hot summer day, and sometimes the hardest part is picking a flavor. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has a limited edition variety that could become your new favorite, if you can find it. Their Kraft Macaroni & Cheese flavored ice cream, sold out in a few hours!

For the first time in 20 years, the Houston Zoo has ocelot cubs! The parents are named Genoveve and Jack, and the baby ocelots are named Sriracha and Wasabi, because they have spicy attitudes. Ocelots are big cats that live in South American rainforests, but they can be found as far north as Texas!

Today is World Snake Day. Have you ever touched a snake’s smooth scaly skin? The longest snake species is the reticulated python, and Medusa is the longest snake, at 25 feet long. Dozens of people could touch her at once! Tiny threadsnakes, are only 4 inches long, and the width of a spaghetti noodle.

Today is Fresh Spinach Day! Eat a spinach salad, or roll the leaves up and eat them like a carrot. It’s also Guinea Pig Appreciation Day. Give your furry pet lots of love, but only feed them spinach once a week. Guinea pigs are rodents, with individual personalities. They’re great pets, but need lots of space!

Louis Angelino had planned to clean a friend’s house while they were out. They left a key under the doormat, and Louis got to work. 2 hours later, he realized he’d cleaned a stranger’s house! The couple joked that they’d been visited by the Cleaning Fairy, and said he’d left the place spotless!

The seniors at Isleboro High School, plan a graduation trip each year. The small island in Maine only had 13 seniors, who had raised about $8000 for their overseas trip, before the pandemic changed everything. Instead of traveling abroad, the class of 20 21 donated their money to the community. It’ll help the island recover from the pandemic.

The Ingenuity helicopter, that hitched a ride to Mars on the Perseverance rover, took its longest flight yet. On a 2 minute and 46 second flight, Ingenuity scoped out areas of soft sand, that could cause the rover to get stuck. It also captured images of Martian bedrock, Raised Ridges, and shadows in the rippling sand.

Today is Give Something Away Day. Maybe it’s a toy you don’t use anymore, or some shoes you outgrew, but someone out there is sure to find a use for it! It’s also Gummi Worm Day, and Tapioca Pudding Day. Put the worms in pudding, then give some servings of your yummy gummy dessert away!

Today is I Love Horses Day. Whether you horseback ride, or just enjoy watching them, horses are wonderful. If you’re lucky enough to have one for a pet, include them for Pet Fire Safety Day. Survey your home for ways your pets could start fires, and create an emergency rescue plan for them.
