A massive horizontal water slide, better known as a slip and slide, broke a world record last week. Canaan Valley Resort, in West Virginia, set up the water slide for their employees, to celebrate the holiday weekend. One rider traveled 2,021 feet, to set a new record for the world’s longest slip and slide.

Every so often, a red panda escapes from a zoo. The most recent escape occurred in Germany. Jang was discovered missing from his enclosure in the Duisburg Zoo. Using a thermal imaging drone, they located the red panda hanging out in a tree in the zoo. Guess he needed a change of scenery!

Did you plant corn in your garden? It’s exciting to see it growing taller. Keep the birds away, by adding a scarecrow in the middle. It’s Build A Scarecrow Day, so stuff some old clothes with rags or hay, and put it to work. Scaring off squirrels and raccoons, is harder. Try red pepper.

Today is Jackfruit Day. It’s high in protein and tastes similar to pork, so it’s a great food to eat instead of meat. That’s perfect, because it’s also Independence From Meat Day! Better yet, it’s Barbecue Day, and Caesar Salad Day, so you can barbecue slabs of jackfruit, and eat it with a salad!

The Fourth of July is known as Independence Day in the United States. This is the day they officially declared independence from the British Empire in 1776. If you aren’t in the USA, you can celebrate Sidewalk Egg Frying Day, as long as it’s sizzling hot where you live!

If you’ve ever fed an outdoor cat, you know other animals also like cat food. Raccoons, opossums, skunks, groundhogs, and birds will all finish off what your cat leaves behind. In Colorado, a bear also helped himself to some cat food, after climbing inside through an open window! He just wanted a little snack.

Gould’s mice went extinct 100 years ago, or so everyone thought. Scientist Emily Roycroft, started investigating its genetic relatives in Australia. When she looked at DNA of a living Shark Bay mouse, it was exactly the same as the extinct Gould’s mouse. The shaggy-haired mice living on Shark Bay Island, are actually the same species!

When you go to the park, do you always visit the same one? Today is Hop A Park Day, so try to visit a few new ones today. You might find a new favorite! Bring a bag of cherries along, to celebrate International Cherry Pit Spitting Day. Who can spit the farthest?

Today is International Plastic Bag Free Day! Don’t use any plastic bags when you go shopping. Get reusable bags and vow to use them from now on! Then look in the mirror and tell yourself how awesome you are. It’s Compliment Your Mirror Day, and the person in your mirror is you!

Here are 2 days that are made for each other. It’s Stay Out Of The Sun Day, and Air Conditioning Appreciation Day. It’s okay to stay inside, and get away from the heat. It’s also Eat Your Beans Day. Beans tend to make you gassy. Maybe you’ll want to spend some time outside after all!
