Savings Are Out of this World

SpaceX is taking recycling to the next level. They recycled a rocket, to carry 4 astronauts to the International Space Station. The Crew-2 mission blasted off Friday morning, re-using both a Falcon 9 rocket, and the Crew Dragon capsule. After the launch, Falcon 9 returned to Earth, landing on a drone ship, ready for another trip.

There’s a Fish at the Door

Ecologists in the Netherlands, invented a fish doorbell. Utrecht’s canals are controlled by locks, which are gates that open, for boats to pass. Fish also need to pass, so an underwater live-streaming camera lets people watch for fish gathering at the gate. When anyone rings the virtual doorbell, the lock-keeper lets the fish through.

Pink Moon on Monday

The next full moon, coming on Monday, is called the Pink Moon. It’s also a supermoon, which occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon’s perigee. The perigee is the point when the moon’s orbit brings it closest to Earth. Since it’s closer than normal, it makes the moon look huge!

A Lovely Day for a Picnic

Do you miss going out to eat? Here’s the safest way. Have a picnic! Pack a lunch and eat in your yard, on your porch, or even on your living room floor, for Picnic Day. It’s also Asparagus Day, and Cherry Cheesecake Day, so make sure you pack those foods, along with sandwiches!

Today is English Language Day. Celebrate by making sure you know the difference between Y-O-U-R and Y-O-U-apostrophe-R-E! You can also use old English words, like thee and thou. Dost thou know that it’s Talk Like Shakespeare Day as well? Wherefore art thou Romeo? He’s probably reading by candlelight, because it’s also World Book Night!

Make Your Own Dirt

When garbage goes into landfills, it gradually becomes a mountain of trash covered with dirt. There is no oxygen to decompose it, and the trash produces methane gas that hurts our atmosphere. Keep food and paper out of landfills, and compost it instead! A compost pile turns it into soil, in your own backyard!

Today is Beagle Day, a type of dog. The most famous beagle is Snoopy. What’s your doggie’s name? Also, what’s your favorite jelly bean flavor? Sample them all, for Jelly Bean Day! The Jelly Belly Bean Boozled packs, have flavors like vomit, rotten egg, and earwax. Do you dare try them?

On the Job Training

Today is Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day, but that’s not really safe right now, unless your parents are working from home. Sit in on a conference call or Zoom meeting! If they’re temporarily not working, ask them to pretend you’re a new employee, and train you for their favorite job.

Whoever has a piggy bank, raise your hand. Banks are a good way to save money, both for adults and kids. You’re more likely to spend all your money, if you carry it in your pocket! Today is Teach Children To Save Day, so scrounge up some change, and make a deposit!

Earth Day Presents

51 years ago, on April 22nd 1970, Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson created Earth Day. He wanted people to focus on the environment, air and water pollution. It grew into a global movement, bringing the world together to try and keep the Earth clean, prevent global warming, and preserve nature for future generations. Happy Earth Day!
