My Arms Are Still Cold

One way to stay warm, is to dress in layers. David Rush and his wife Jennifer, are experts at layering, after breaking a world record. David put on 35 T-shirts, in 1 minute. She helped pull the shirts down in back, since it’s hard to move while wearing so many layers. Now for the pants!

Skylight Does It All

Henry Glogau is a New Zealand designer, whose specialty is architecture for extreme conditions. He designed a beautiful skylight, to solve problems for Chile’s coastal shantytowns. It provides light to dark homes, while using solar power to purify water. The skylight filters seawater, and leftover brine sifts into batteries, to provide light at night.

Secret Codes in Plain Sight

Have you watched the video, of the Perseverance landing on Mars? The red-and-white parachute contained a secret message. IT student Abela Paf and his father, figured out that the blocks of color represented the 1s and 0s of binary code. The pattern spelled out, “Dare mighty things,” and the Jet Propulsion Lab’s geographic coordinates.

Don’t Be a Bully

Today is Pink Day. 2 boys started it, after noticing a classmate getting bullied, for wearing a pink shirt. Wear pink today to take a stand against bullying. Bullying isn’t only beating someone up, or taking their lunch money. It’s also making fun of people, purposely leaving someone out, or saying things about someone online.

Tri-Cornered Crunch

Crunch-crunch-crunch. Today is National Tortilla Chip Day! In Los Angeles in the 19 40’s, Rebecca Webb Carranza noticed all the misshapen tortillas that were rejected at the El Zarape Tortilla Factory. She cut them into triangles and fried them, then sold them for 10 cents a bag. Corn + oil + water + salt = delicious!

Cozy Shelter From the Storm

Have you ever shopped in a furniture store, and tried out all the comfy couches and bouncy beds? 2 Gallery Furniture stores in Houston Texas, became the most comfortable shelters ever, when they opened their doors to 700 people, who’d lost power during the storm. The owner, Mattress Mack, also gave out 3000 meals. He’s Houston’s hero.

Hop Back to Prehistoric Times

Australia’s oldest rock painting, dates back over 17,000 years. Painted on a rock ceiling in the Kimberley region, is a kangaroo! The outline is filled in with dashes, to make it look hairy. Scientists were able to date the painting, by measuring the age of ancient wasp nests built under and over it.

The Mars 20 20 mission, has started sending back data from the Red Planet. For the first time ever, we got to hear what it sounds like on Mars. You can listen to a recording of the wind gusting past the Perseverance rover, see video footage of the landing, and view lots of photos, at NASA.gov.
