Taking photos of yourself can be entertaining, but today is meant for more studious selfies. It’s Library Shelfie Day. Arrange all your favorite books on shelves behind you, and then pose with them. You could even visit an actual library, and get a group shot with your favorite author’s books. Smile and say “Reed!”

Chocolate Cake With a Yellow Border

On January 27th 1888, a group was founded for “the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge.” It’s National Geographic Day, so grab the magazine with the yellow border, and learn something about the world around you. You should celebrate their 133rd birthday with a piece of chocolate cake, since it’s also Chocolate Cake Day! Yum!

Are you good, at catching popcorn in your mouth? Here’s a record you can try to break. David Rush and his friend Jonathan Hannon, who have lots of experience breaking world records, teamed up again. Jonathan threw pieces of popcorn at David, who caught 54 pieces in 1 minute! They must have great aim.

GoPro Still Going Strong

Rose Zhang was helping with an underwater cleanup in Hawaii, when she found a GoPro camera. The memory card was still intact, so she posted the video on Facebook, hoping to find the owner. Nainoa Kamai was shocked to see his video online. His camera had spent the last 7 years in the ocean!

Think Stupendously Big

At the center of most galaxies is a black hole. That’s where gravity pulls so hard, not even light can escape. There are stellar-mass, supermassive, and ultramassive black holes. Scientists believe there are black holes so big, they’d need a new category. Stupendously Large Black Holes, or SLABS, are 100,000,000,000 times our Sun’s mass.

Presidential Poochies

US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, moved into the White House last Tuesday. The new First Dogs, Major and Champ, joined them on Sunday. 3-year-old Major, enjoys running on the South Lawn, while the older German shepherd Champ, loves his comfy bed by the fireplace.

Greenut Brittle

Today is Green Juice Day. Smoothies made with spinach or kale, green grapes, and other fruits and vegetables, might surprise you with their deliciousness! It’s also Peanut Brittle Day. The buttery hard candy is full of peanuts, and can stick in your teeth, so you can wash it down with your healthy green juice!

Protective Puffy Pants

Cars have special safety features, like airbags, to protect you in an accident. Motorcycles? Not so much. That’s why Moses Shahrivar, invented motorcycle safety jeans. Airbags in the pants inflate, if the motorcyclist gets in an accident. There are already airbag vests for sale, to protect a rider’s upper half. Don’t forget your helmet!

Tons of Trash

Over the weekend, the Tennessee River got a makeover. 25 volunteers spent 3 days, gathering 9,208 pounds of trash from the riverbanks. Volunteers adopted 3 miles of the river, to try and keep that section clean. More cleanups are planned, with a goal of removing 100,000 pounds of trash, by the end of the year.

Mission Deploys Most Spacecraft Ever

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Florida yesterday, carrying an impressive load. It was packed with 10 satellites, and 133 spacecraft, which were deployed for the government and other companies. After the Falcon’s reusable main booster separated, it returned to Earth and landed on a spaceport drone ship, called Of Course I Still Love You.
