Mountain of Blue Fire

The Kawah Ijen Volcano, in Indonesia, has lava that you don’t see during the day. But at night, the lava glows blue! The mountain contains a lot of sulfur, which gives off an icy blue-violet color as it burns. The fumes are noxious, so it’s best to watch the burning flames from a distance!

Yellow punching bags have started popping up around Manhattan, in New York City. The designers, called don’t take this the wrong way, put them up as an opportunity for both locals and visitors, to release their frustrations in a safe way. Instead of getting into an argument, just punch the bag a few times!

Dog Steals the Show

During a 100 meter race in China, a surprise competitor nearly won. A stray dog decided to join in the fun, and entered the race, coming in second place! Locals say the dog’s been hanging around for 4 years. Apparently, he finally had enough of being a spectator, and wanted to show off his running skills!

Congratulations From the Dictionary

The 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee had so many champion spellers, they started to run out of challenging words. They finally had to award the trophy, and $50,000 each, to all 8 finalists! Rishik Gandhasri, Saketh Sundar, Erin Howard, Shruthika Padhy, Abhijay Kodali, Christopher Serrao, Sohum Sukhatankar, and Rohan Raja, are 12-14 years old, and awesome. A-W-E-S-O-M-E. Awesome.

Save the Coral Reefs

Did you know, some sunscreens can be harmful to coral reefs? It’s World Reef Day, and these important ecosystems are in trouble. Plastic pollution in the ocean, harmful chemicals from tourist’s sunblocks, or rising water temperatures of only 2-4 degrees Fahrenheit, can cause coral reefs to eventually die. Let’s all work to save the reefs!
