Remembering Soldiers

Today is Memorial Day in the United States. Previously known as Decoration Day, it honors those who have died while serving in the military. The holiday also marks the beginning of summer, when pools and amusement parks open. Some lucky students have even finished the school year by now!

Pickle Split, Anyone?

Are banana splits too sweet for you? Maybe you need to try the new sundae, at Desoto’s Pine Mountain Country Coffee House. The Missouri restaurant with the long name serves pickle splits! A big dill pickle is sliced in half, placed around 3 scoops of ice cream, and topped with syrup and hot fudge. Yummy!

Rainbows Save the Whole Town

Huang Yung-Fu’s village in Taiwan used to be home to 1200 families, but they gradually moved away. The government decided to demolish the town, but Huang didn’t want to leave. Instead, Huang started painting the buildings with colorful doodles! The 97 year-old is known as the Rainbow Grandpa, and his Rainbow Village was saved from demolition!

Trade Kayaking for Trash

Greenkayak is a Danish company that operates in Ireland, Norway, Denmark, and Germany. You can use their kayaks to paddle around the waterways for 2 hours, for free. You just have to pick up trash while you’re out there. In 2 years, 10,000 people have picked up 24,000 pounds of trash! What a great idea!
