They are both extremely difficult to explore, and humans have glimpsed only a tiny sliver of the mysteries they hold. Go to the beach with a telescope, and celebrate the stars and seas!

Giraffe Needs Shoes

The Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle Washington, welcomed a new baby giraffe this month. But the little guy had hyper-extended fetlocks, a condition that makes it hard to walk. In order to help him get around, specialists created therapeutic shoes for him! His legs can grow stronger, while the zoo decides on his name.

Pigeon Caught Speeding

The town of Bocholt Germany, has speed cameras to catch drivers going over the speed limit. But one speeder wasn’t driving; it was flying! A pigeon was whizzing along at 10 miles-per-hour over the limit, triggering the speed camera. The fine for speeding is $28, but the city doesn’t know where to send the bill!

A Bunch of Old Trees

One of the oldest trees in existence, has just been discovered in a swamp in the United States. Scientists found bald cypress trees along the Black River in North Carolina, that are over 2000 years old. So far, the oldest one is 2,624! The scientists believe some may be even older. That’s incredible!

Staying Connected on E-Highways

Germany is testing out a new e-Highway system, for electric trucks. The trucks connect to power lines which run above the autobahn, Germany’s motorway. Instead of having to stop to recharge their batteries, big rigs can just keep driving. Since the electric trucks don’t produce harmful emissions, it’s a cleaner way to ship freight!

Friendly Beluga Retrieves Camera

An unusual beluga whale, noticed by Norwegian fishermen last month, was wearing a GoPro camera harness from Russia. He’s comfortable with the humans who have been hoping to interact with him. Ina Mansika dropped her camera in the water after spotting the beluga, but he helpfully grabbed the sinking camera, and returned it to her!
