Contented Bear in a Hot Tub

Hannah Strickland, a visitor renting a cabin in Gatlinburg Tennessee, found out she’ll need to share the hot tub with local residents. She photographed 3 black bears wandering the property. One of them was enjoying a relaxing soak, in the hot tub on the back porch! They eventually wandered off, and gave Hannah her turn.

Petrifying Carbon

The CarbFix project in Iceland, turns the harmful carbon dioxide emissions from a power plant, into stone! Much of Iceland’s energy comes from geothermal sources, which emit CO2. CarbFix processes the emissions, dissolving the CO2 in water. Then the water is pumped 1 mile underground, where it will turn into minerals and petrify. That rocks!

Discover Old Books in a New Format

The Library of Congress celebrated the 100th anniversary of Children’s Book Week, which ends tomorrow, by launching an online collection of children’s books. The special thing about this collection, is that all the books were published before 1924! Visit LOC.gov and look under Children’s Book Selections, to read what kids were reading over 100 years ago!

Nature is the Best Singer

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, recorded the song, “Let Nature Sing.” It’s flying up the charts in the United Kingdom, and it’s entirely made up of bird sounds! 25 different bird calls, provide the sound for a music video of shadow-puppet birds, raising awareness about vulnerable bird species. It’s really beautiful!

Mikah Meyers really loves the National Park Service. He just took the ultimate road trip, and visited all 419 U.S. sites, in a row! It took him 3 years to travel through 56 states and territories, seeing natural wonders and man-made monuments. Mikah completed his trek, by climbing the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, in Washington DC.
