Gators Galore

Florida alligators are showing up everywhere. A 750 pound gator was found wandering through a parking lot, and was safely moved. Earlier in the month, an 800 pound alligator was removed from a golf course. And this week, an alligator was waiting at a school bus stop near a lake. I wonder what grade he was in!

Have a Seat for Health

Researchers at the Rochester Institute of Technology, have designed a new toilet seat. It’s equipped to measure heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and the amount of blood being pumped with each heart beat. The toilet seat will be given to patients with congestive heart failure, so hospitals can monitor patients from home!

7 Year-Old Masters Persuasion

7 year-old Benjamin Ball loves sea turtles. So when he went to L.L. Bean’s store in Maine, and they only had plastic straws, he wrote a letter to the company’s president. He explained how plastic hurts marine animals, and asked them to use paper straws. L.L. Bean followed his advice, and switched to biodegradable straws!

Hang On Tight!

He’s no Mary Poppins, but a man in Turkey did float through the air on an umbrella! Strong winds on a Turkish street caused several men to stand on the platform of a large umbrella, in order to keep it from flying away. The wind carried it 10 feet up before the last man jumped!

Baby Teachers

At Ardgowan Primary School in Greenock Scotland, some teachers are quite young. In fact, 3 of them are babies! Their mothers are also teachers, out on maternity leave. They bring the babies in, to teach students about empathy, understanding, and responsibility. It helps kids understand, the hard work their own parents put into raising them!

Give an Hour for Earth

At 8:30 pm today, turn off all your lights for Earth Hour. People around the globe will participate at 8:30 in their time zone, creating a wave of darkness sweeping across the Earth. Earth Hour was created to bring attention to each person’s part in protecting our planet. What will you do to help?
