Reset All the Clocks

Spring forward, fall back. Clocks moved forward one hour in North America, for Daylight Saving Time. It’s dark again when kids get up for school, but there’s more natural light in the evening to play outside! It’s good for businesses, and saves a little on electricity. But I’m still sleepy!

Goat is Elected Mayor

As a way of raising money for a new school playground, the town of Fair Haven Vermont, held an election for an animal mayor. Residents could nominate their pets for a 5 dollar donation. The winner was a Nubian goat named Lincoln, beating Sammie the dog by only 2 votes. Lincoln will serve a one-year term.

Long Distance 911

Last month, a mountain man living off the grid in Scotland, needed medical care. But Ken lives alone, without a phone or other technology. He uses a satellite beacon for emergencies, but his urgent alert wasn’t picked up in the UK. His signal was received in Texas! They relayed the message, and Ken was rescued.

Wash Clothes on a Bike

There’s a fun way to do laundry, that’s also good for your health and the environment! It’s the Bike Washing Machine! University students in China invented the BiWa, which is a stationary bicycle, with a clothing drum for a front wheel! You supply the power by exercising, and it conserves water. Now that’s multitasking!

Barbie Turns 60

Today is Barbie Day. The first Barbie doll was made by Ruth Handler, 60 years ago! If you visit Washington DC, check out a wacky collection of Barbies, in a garden on Q Street. The display changes with the holidays, and has an Instagram account called Barbie Pond on Avenue Q. These Barbies have fun!

One Fish, Two Fish, 1063 Fish

2 elementary schools decided to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day, by breaking the world record, for largest gathering of people dressed as Dr. Seuss characters. Both schools broke the previous record of 825. Broadneck Elementary in Maryland had 890 characters, such as the Cat in the Hat and the Lorax. But Fair Oaks Ranch in California, gathered 1,063 people!

Thieving Rat

A jewelry store was robbed in Patna India, but the thief only took a couple of diamond earrings. When the owner, Dheeraj Kumar, watched the security camera footage, he was shocked to see a rat take them, then go scurrying into the ceiling! There must be fancy rats living up there!

Moose on the Rooftop

A couple in British Columbia Canada, thought they heard something on top of the apartment building’s carport. When they went outside to investigate, they discovered a moose on the roof! He looked confused, wandering around in the snow. The moose eventually found his way back down. No one knows how he got up there!
