Two day of Proofreading Day. You might thin spellcheck will catch all your mistakes, but only if you misspell the worms! Besides, autocorrect. Need I say more? Today is also Middle Name Pride Day. Maybe you’re named after someone special, or maybe it just sounded good. Use your middle name proudly!

King Me!

Over 900 students in Ontario Canada, smashed the world record for most simultaneous games of checkers. Kids from 40 schools gathered for the school board’s 50th annual checkers tournament. Although they’ve broken the record of 540 players, set in 2014, multiple times, this is the first year they’re applying to have it officially recognized by Guinness.

Party Responsibly

The Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans Louisiana, are over for another year. But the thousands of plastic beaded necklaces that are given away, aren’t so great for the environment, with many ending up in the water system. Professor Naohiro Kato, is working on making cheap biodegradable beads, out of recycled microalgae! Party on!

Wherever you go today, bring along a book. It’s World Book Day! If you’re reading a good story, you’ll be happy to sit on the bus in traffic, or wait forever for an appointment. Since it’s also Cereal Day, you don’t have to cook dinner. Eat a bowl of cereal, while reading your book!

Endless Stream of Elk

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, caught an enormous herd of elk on camera. The video shows around 700 elk crossing a road! Elk resemble deer, but they weigh 500-700 pounds and stand nearly 5 feet tall at the shoulder! Surviving the winter is hard work, so if you see any elk, don’t stress them out!

Lake Gets Civil Rights

5 years ago, Lake Erie was so polluted from chemical runoff, that Ohio residents were warned not to drink tap water. Last week, residents of Toledo Ohio, passed a law to help protect the lake from future chemical disasters, by granting it civil rights. The Great Lake will have the same rights as a person!
