Atmosphere Reaches New Limits

A team of astronomers has discovered, the Earth’s atmosphere extends beyond the Moon! Previously, it was believed the geocorona, which is too thin to easily measure, ended around 124,000 miles from Earth. The Moon averages about 240,000 miles away. The new data shows, the atmosphere reaches out 391,000 miles. That means humans have never left Earth’s atmosphere!

Easy and Cheap Clean Water

Scientists in China have developed a water-purification system, that could bring clean water to people everywhere. They placed sheets of graphite carbon into a water container. When the sheets are exposed to the sun, they create compounds that get rid of bacteria. Researchers will send the portable water containers, to communities around the world.

Long in the Tooth

Curtis Buddie is a new world record holder! The 10 year-old has the world’s longest baby tooth, at .94 inches long. The tremendous tooth was extracted at The Gentle Dentist in Columbus Ohio. Curt and his fifth grade classmates, never thought losing a baby tooth could still be so exciting!

As more people order products online, there are reports of deliveries disappearing. Security cameras have caught many porch thieves in action. But when Ashley Craig Hymer reviewed footage, to see who stole her Amazon package, she was surprised to discover it was her own puppies! 3 month-old labs, Denali and Ocoee, were just being mischievous!

Floating Trash Cans

The world’s oceans are polluted with trash, so maybe the answer is trash cans. The Seabin is a floating vacuum, that sucks trash from the surrounding water, and filters it into a bag holding 44 pounds of debris. The motor discourages fish from coming near. Seabins are a good start for cleaning marinas and bays.

Amphicars Float!

Next month in Mount Dora Florida, you can watch an unusual parade. It will take place both on land, and in the water! The parade will feature Amphicars, amphibious cars from the 19-60’s. Vintage Amphicar owners meet for the weekend. Their schedule includes, meet for breakfast, then drive our cars into the lake.
