Still Working on the Dream

Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day. Dr. King was a minister, activist, Nobel Peace Prize winner and leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He used non-violent civil disobedience, marches and sit-ins to try to create racial equality in the United States. He was assassinated in 1968, but still inspires us to fight racism.

Smart Little Eggs

Researchers have discovered that cuttlefish can detect and avoid danger, before they even hatch! They develop in transparent eggs, so they can see when a predator is nearby, or spot cuttlefish ink from an adult’s escape. Since they can’t swim away, they hold their breath and freeze, so they don’t get eaten.

Cold-Weather Capers

Winters in Minnesota provide some interesting sights. Some friends were skating on Lake Minnetonka, when they saw a man doing donuts with his tractor, on the ice. One friend used a golf cart to join the fun. Then the cart and tractor towed a sofa across the ice, so the friends could go couch-surfing!

That Kitten has Wheels

When 9 year-old João met his neighbor’s new kittens, he noticed one of them couldn’t walk. He was determined to help the kitten play with its siblings, so he decided to build her a wheelchair! He borrowed materials from a friend to create the device, attached it to the kitten, and away she rode!
