N.Y.U. MDs with No I.O.U.s

The New York University School of Medicine announced this week, that it would give free tuition to all M.D students! This will save students over $55,000 per year, and help them focus on becoming outstanding doctors. NYU hopes it will inspire more people to become physicians, if they can eliminate medical school costs.

Save the Orangutans

It’s International Orangutan Day, celebrating the expressive orange-haired apes. They are an endangered species, found only in Borneo and Sumatra. While orangutans grow only about 5 feet tall, their arm span can reach 7 feet from tip to tip! Palm oil plantations are the biggest threat to the wild population, destroying their rainforest homes.

Here Comes the Plane!

The perfect thing to do today would be, to fly around in a little plane, taking pictures of potato fields, with bows in your hair. That’s because it’s International Bow Day, World Photography Day, National Potato Day, and Aviation Day. At the very least, spoon mashed potatoes into your mouth like an airplane!

Checkmate!

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the St. Louis Chess Club erected the world’s biggest chess piece. Missouri’s World Chess Hall of Fame built the 20 foot tall king, sculpted from mahogany. There are no plans to make a complete set that big. The board would have to be 80 feet long!

Human Tire Pump

Picture blowing up a balloon. Now imagine doing it with your nose. Switch the balloon to a tire, and you’re getting close to Tang Feihu’s feat! Tang recently set a world record in China by inflating 12 tires at once, through his nostril! He spent years practicing martial arts and qigong, developing his breathing technique.
