Opportunity Awaits

A dust storm on the planet Mars, that started in May and engulfed the whole planet, is finally starting to die down. The storm had caused the Opportunity rover to go into hibernation mode, and it needs solar power to charge back up. Hopefully the dust will settle in a few weeks!

Bicyclists Beware

A recent study using eye-tracking devices, showed that more than half of drivers, don’t check properly for bicyclists. Especially when there are parked cars and irregular bike lanes, some drivers didn’t even glance at cyclists, before they made a right turn at an intersection. For your safety, always assume drivers don’t see you!

Homeless Dogs Get Help

Paul Crowell of San Fransisco California, started feeding dogs in homeless communities 5 years ago, when he worked at a company that threw out extra dog food. After the company changed hands, he could no longer take the extra food, so he started Project Open Paw. The organization gives food and medical care to needy dogs!

The Forest Man of India

Jadav Payeng lives on Majuli, the world’s largest river island. When he was 16, he saw the greenery around his home disappearing, and vowed to bring life back to the Indian island. He started planting a tree every day. 40 years later, he’s created 1,360 acres of forest inhabited by elephants and tigers, and he’s still planting trees!

A Looooooooong Flight

Remote controlled toys are fun, but they seem like they constantly need to be recharged. Well, the remotely controlled Zephyr S is a lightweight airplane, that flew for 26 days straight! The drone with an 82 foot wingspan, is solar powered. It flew in the stratosphere at 70,000 feet to avoid weather and other air traffic.
