The government of West Java, in Indonesia, is trying a new approach to keep kids off their cell phones. They are giving baby chicks to students! The Mayor believes raising chicks will keep kids busy, and give them a sense of responsibility. The chicks that grow into the biggest chickens, will be awarded prizes.

A restaurant and bar in Portland Oregon, has another purpose. Fido’s Taphouse is a foster home for dogs! The restaurant helps find homes for pooches, that come from animal shelters that are too full. People can come in and play with the dogs, and adopt one if they find a new best friend!

After a week on the loose, a red panda has been returned to his home at a French zoo. He escaped during a snowfall, when branches fell into his enclosure and he used them to climb out. He was discovered in a garden miles away, but was unharmed by his adventure!

Peter and Minke van Wingerden live in the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, but that hasn’t stopped them from having a farm. They’ve built a 3-story floating farm on one of the city’s waterways! The farm doesn’t depend on roadways or take up land space, and it uses rainwater from the roof!

A stray dog in Ontario Canada, found 5 orphaned kittens out in the cold. She knew they needed help to survive, so the dog curled up around the kittens and kept them warm. A driver passing by spotted the group, and took them to a shelter. Now Serenity and her kittens will get forever homes!

If you live in Los Angeles, you can help make the world greener for free. The city is giving up to 7 young trees to residents, to plant in their yards. They have to agree to water the saplings once a week for the first 5 years, but the city supplies the stakes, ties, and fertilizer.

Their organization, Detroit Hives, will transform places where houses and buildings were torn down, into bee paradises. The land will have flowers, gardens, and beehives, making it beautiful for everyone!
