Summer Reading is Fantastic

Make sure you spend time reading this summer! A group in Florida studied kids who took place in the Suncoast Campaign’s Summer Book Challenge. Instead of losing reading proficiency over the summer, those children went back to school with better reading skills. See if your local library has a summer reading program!

The ancient Maya civilization really valued chocolate. From the years 250-900, cacao beans were used as money! Afterwards, they made chocolate out of them. Would that be like eating your money? The Maya of Mesoamerica made chocolate drinks with chili powder. How about a cup of spicy hot currency?

Oumuamua, What Are You-ayua?

For more than 8 months, astronomers have been studying the unusual interstellar object named Oumuamua. It’s cigar-shaped and comes from outside our Solar System. But is it a comet or an asteroid? After much debate, astronomers say it’s a comet because its trajectory can’t be explained by gravity alone. Maybe it’s an astermet!
