Art Made from LEGO

Artist Nathan Sawaya works in an unusual medium. He creates his artworks out of LEGO bricks! From life-sized sculptures, to paintings using bricks instead of brushstrokes, his impressive pieces are on display at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Sawaya wants everyone to bring out their artistic side with building blocks!

Tokyo Gets the Green Medal

The 20 20 Olympics will be taking place in Tokyo Japan, and they will be the greenest ever. Tokyo will use 100% renewable energy to power everything from the stadiums to the athletes’ village. Nearly all materials will be reused or recycled, and they will rent as much as possible.  They deserve a gold medal!

Pool Party!

Firefighters from the Charlotte Fire Station were returning from a call, when they saw a family filling a kiddie pool. They were using pots and pans of water to slowly fill the pool for their little boy’s birthday. The firefighters came to the rescue with a fire hose, and filled the pool in minutes!

So Cold it Hurts to Breathe

Scientists have been studying temperatures on the East Antarctic Plateau. They realized it’s even colder than they thought! The coldest temperature recorded at ground level, measured the air temperature at minus 128 degrees Fahrenheit. But temperature readings taken by satellite from space, measuring the temperature of Earth’s coldest surface, recorded minus 144 degrees Fahrenheit!

Diaper Recycling!

At last, researchers in Taiwan have come up with a way to recycle diapers. Their machine can turn 220 pounds of dirty nappies into clean raw materials. They’re working on a large facility that could recycle 10 tons of diapers a day! The sanitized materials are separated and reused to make cardboard, and more diapers!

Underwater Sleeping Beauty

Archaeologists have found a mummified woman around 2000 years old, and nicknamed her, “Sleeping Beauty.” She was dressed in silk and beads, and sealed in a stone coffin along with a mirror, and a funeral meal. She was likely a nomadic Hun, naturally mummified because the coffin was underwater in Siberia.
