Scientists have discovered a surprising fact about the Kilauea volcano that’s erupting in Hawaii. It has a magnetic field that goes the opposite direction! The molten rock beneath Kilauea’s caldera contains large amounts of iron, making it a swirling mass of magnets. Your compass would go crazy if you tried to use it there!

Surviving Battlefront

At the National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham England, the father-daughter team of Tim and Keren Young set a world record. They completed the survival mode level of Star Wars: Battlefront, without the help of a blaster, in only 9 minutes and 20 seconds. They also raised money for the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. Are Ewoks wildlife?

Rescued by Knights

A youth football team from Boise Idaho named the Black Knights became heroes last weekend. The team, made up of kids 13 and under, was returning from a tournament when they saw an overturned vehicle with a couple trapped inside. They combined their strength to lift the SUV and rescue them. That’s a winning team!

Do you like to skip stones when you go to a pond? The highest number of stone skips recorded is 88, a record held by Kurt “Mountain Man” Steiner. But the longest distance a stone has ever been skimmed was an astonishing 400 feet! Dougie Isaacs nearly ran out of lake setting the new record!

Alexa, All Lights Off

An African gray Congo parrot named Petra, has learned to use Alexa! Petra’s owner has lights that are voice activated, and Petra loves to tell Alexa to turn all the lights on and off. The parrot also has her own YouTube channel. She’s only 4 years old and already has a 300 word vocabulary!
