Recycle, Reduce, Then Reuse Landfills

Most discarded trash goes into landfills. But what happens when the landfill is full? Instead of simply closing them, some landfills are repurposed into parks, golf courses, or even skate parks like Mount Trashmore. Student Joy Youwakim has just proved they can even be safe places to grow food! Thousands of inactive landfills could become farmland!

Big Eagles, Little Eagles

Have you checked out DCeaglecam.org yet? Mr. President and The First Lady, 2 bald eagles in Washington D C, are busy raising 2 fluffy eaglets! That’s One Looooooong Braid

It’s one thing to roll up a mile long ball of string. But it’s a little harder to create a mile long braid! The Somerset County 4-H Club in New Jersey braided strips of old bed sheets together to create the world’s longest 3-strand textile braid. Then they rolled it into a giant ball! Now where’s a giant cat?

Maybe His Wings Were Tired

A bird in Japan surprised observers at a Tokyo train station. The crow was hopping around a ticket machine after watching people buy tickets with credit cards. Then he hopped to the next machine, grabbed a woman’s credit card as it popped out, and took it back to his own ticket machine! That’s one smart crow!

Marcio Mizael Matolias is King of his castle: a giant sand castle! The Brazilian man built an elaborate sand castle 22 years ago in Rio de Janeiro, with a room 10 square feet inside. He started spending so much time there, that he moved in permanently! He keeps it wet, and can rebuild for free if it gets destroyed!

A 4 year-old boy from Alabama is the best kind of superhero. Austin Perine uses his allowance each week to buy a bag of sandwiches and sodas to give to the homeless. That’s what he thinks a president should do, so he calls himself President Austin. He wears a cape and his motto is, “Don’t forget to show love.”

Ok Now, Jump! Good Spider!

Maybe you’ve taught your dog a few tricks. Ready to train spiders? Scientists have trained a regal jumping spider named Kim to jump on command! Kim can jump 6 times her body length. That’s like a human jumping over 40 feet! They are studying her leg movements in order to build robots that can jump.
