The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio has had a baby boom this year! They introduced five Asian small-clawed otter pups born to parents Peanut and Gus, a silvered leaf langur monkey born to parents Patty and Thai, and a Humboldt penguin chick born to parents Katja and Hans. She’s named Her Majesty Gertrude Sprinklebottom!

The Mighty Texas Dog Walk is coming up on March 24th in Austin, and Texas bakers are planning a mighty big dog cake. They want to break the world record for largest cake for dogs, and it will need to weigh more than 202 pounds. Bring your dog to help eat it afterwards!

China is going to build a giant park for the giant panda. The Giant Panda National Park will cover over 10,000 square miles in mountainous southwestern China. It will connect several areas where wild pandas live in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. Hopefully, the pandas will spread out, meet each other, and have more baby pandas!

There’s a new grain in town called fonio. Fonio is a gluten-free grain grown in West Africa. It needs very little water, has more protien and fiber than brown rice, and it can be harvested three times a year. It’s similar to couscous and easier to pronounce than quinoa. It’s a super-grain!

Ugh, I feel so tired this morning. We had to move the clocks forward one hour in the USA and Canada for Daylight Saving Time. It’s dark again when kids get up for school, but there’s more natural light in the evening to play outside! It’s good for businesses and saves on electricity. But I’m still sleepy!

The Rhone Glacier in the Swiss Alps has been shrinking for decades; it’s lost 1148 feet of thickness since 1856. But the shrinkage is increasing so rapidly that locals have started covering the glacier with white blankets in the summer! They reflect sunlight and reduce melting by 70%! Tucked in snug as a bug in an icy rug.

Chances are you’ve never seen a rare snow doughnut. To form, they need a thin layer of wet snow on top of ice or powder snow, and either wind that’s just strong enough to push the doughnut, or a hill for gravity to do the work. The tallest doughnut photographed was 26 inches tall!

Brandon Stanton is a photographer who started the “Humans of New York” series. He also just raised over $1,000,000 for Rohingya refugees in only 4 days, on the fundraising site GoFundMe. The money will build thousands of bamboo houses in Bangladesh for homeless refugees fleeing Myanmar. Each 2 bedroom home will house 6 people and cost only $630!
