The world jack jumping championships are taking place today at Mount Snow, Vermont. Jack jumping is a crazy sport where you strap a seat to a ski, stick your legs straight out, lean back, and fly down a snowy slope. Known as Skibock in Europe, the first jack jumps were makeshift transportation for loggers.

If you love Hot Wheels cars, you should visit the Lubbock Arts Festival in Texas next month. Students from Monterrey High School are teaming up with an engineering firm and Mattel to build the longest continuous Hot Wheels track in the world! They hope to make the track 1900 feet long!

Archaeologists working in the English Channel uncovered a grave with the ancient remains of a porpoise inside. They’d believed the grave would hold a human skeleton since the island of Chapelle Dom Hue was a religious retreat for medieval monks. The porpoise was entombed next to 14th century monks’ graves. Maybe he was their pet!

Scientists once worried about how climate change was causing the Adélie penguin population to decline. Then they unexpectedly discovered 1.5 million of them living on the Danger Islands off the Antarctic Peninsula! The scientists want to ensure the Danger Islands are protected, while studying what allows that penguin population to thrive while others dwindle.

The moon is getting its own mobile phone network! An Ultra Compact Network weighing 2 pounds will allow data and video streaming between the moon and Earth. PTScientists, Vodaphone, Audi and Nokia are all working on the Mission to the Moon project, which will launch on a SpaceX rocket in 2019. I hope they call me!

Australian George Corones may have won because he was racing alone, but the 99 year-old swam the 50 meter freestyle in 56 seconds, smashing the record for his age group. He turns 100 in April, so he got to compete in the 100-104 age bracket. George took up swimming for exercise when he turned 80.

Tardigrades are amazing microscopic creatures. Also called water bears or moss piglets, they can survive in the cold vacuum of space, in volcanoes and in deep underwater trenches. They can withstand radiation blasts or live for decades without food or water. The newest tardigrade species was found on moss in a Japanese parking lot!
