Remembering Veterans

At the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, 101 years ago, the armistice marking the end of World War One was signed.  November 11th is Armistice Day, although the United States celebrates all armed forces members with Veterans Day, and the Commonwealth of Nations, France, and Belgium celebrate Remembrance Day.

Bike-Friendly Streets

New York City streets, are about to get safer for bicyclists. The Streets Master Plan includes 250 miles of new bike lanes, that will be separated from traffic. They’ll also build 150 miles of separate bus lanes, and 1,000,000 square feet of pedestrian space, by 2021, to encourage eco-friendly transportation, and help keep traffic flowing!

Ball, Come, Outside

Stella the dog is learning to communicate using words. Her human, Christine Hunger, developed a soundboard, with buttons for different words. Stella can press the buttons to say she’s happy, or wants to go outside, or play with her ball! She already knows 29 words, and combines words to make sentences.

Manatees Matter

Did you know it’s Manatee Awareness Month? Manatees, also known as sea cows, are slow-moving aquatic mammals, that are vulnerable to extinction. They’re about 10-15 feet long, and have 4 rows of teeth! Manatees live in warm shallow waters, and graze on underwater vegetation. Here’s a fun fact: baby manatees drink milk from their mom’s armpit!

I’m Dizzy

When dinosaurs roamed the Earth, they were on the other side of the Milky Way Galaxy. That’s because it takes about 250,000,000 years for our Solar System to complete a galactic orbit. The Earth is spinning, and circling around the Sun, while the whole system rotates a black hole, as the Galaxy rotates through space!
