Around the world today, many kids will be skipping school to join the Global Climate Strike. 16-year-old Greta Thunberg started the Friday school strikes, as a way to get adults to take action to save the planet from environmental damage. Adults can join kids, by finding a local protest to attend.

Today is Punch Day. No, you don’t get to punch somebody! It’s a sweet, fruity drink! Try your favorite recipe. Make some fried rice to go with it, because it’s also Fried Rice Day. Take day-old rice, and fry it in a wok combined with diced vegetables, ginger, and soy sauce. It’s delicious!

What’s the weirdest combination you ever ate? There are some strange recipes out there, but here’s one I’ve never heard of. It’s called Mountain Dew Dorito Pie! The filling is made with Mountain Dew soda and Cool Whip, and the crust is made from Nacho Cheese Doritos and butter. Sounds healthy, haha!

Have you ever tried a pawpaw? It’s the largest edible fruit in North America, and grows in forests. Some people call it the Hillbilly Mango, or the Kentucky Banana, because it has a tropical taste. The custard-like fruit has a hint of pineapple, banana, and mango flavor. Try one today for Pawpaw Day!

14 years ago, an orphaned elephant calf was rescued by the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. Loijuk grew up and returned to the wild. Recently, she came back to visit her rescuers, so she could show off her new baby! They named her Lily, and are enjoying the time with their old and new friends!

Arr! It’s me favorite day matey! It’s Talk Like A Pirate Day! Repeat all your favorite pirate phrases, and make sure you use a gruff, sea-weathered voice all day long! Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! Except make that a bottle of butterscotch pudding, since it’s also Butterscotch Pudding Day. Yarar!

In Russia, passengers on a bus were surprised when an unusual rider tried to board. A horse had been grazing on a patch of grass near the bus stop. When the bus pulled up, the horse tried to get on! The bus driver closed the door in the horse’s face. How rude!

If you use enough stamps, you can mail just about anything. The San Diego Opera in California, just received a coconut! It was not in a box, but simply a coconut with stamps attached, and the address written on the husk. They believe it was sent, by an employee vacationing in Hawaii.

Denmark’s TV2 held a tele-thon last weekend, to benefit the climate. Called “Denmark Plants Trees,” the 2 1/2 hour broadcast from a forest, raised enough money to plant 1,000,000 trees! The donations will also help preserve existing forests in Denmark. They hope more countries around the world will use this great fundraising idea, and plant trees everywhere!
