Denmark’s TV2 held a tele-thon last weekend, to benefit the climate. Called “Denmark Plants Trees,” the 2 1/2 hour broadcast from a forest, raised enough money to plant 1,000,000 trees! The donations will also help preserve existing forests in Denmark. They hope more countries around the world will use this great fundraising idea, and plant trees everywhere!
Do you have an old car seat in your house, from when you were a baby? You can recycle it! Car seats are only good for about 6 years after they’re made, so you shouldn’t give them away. Until September 30th, Walmart is giving a store credit for $30 for seats, and TerraCycle will recycle them!
Today is Hug A Greeting Card Writer Day. It might be hard to find one, so maybe just show your appreciation, by sending someone a greeting card instead! It’s also Reed An Ebook Day. The public library has lots of ebooks you can check out from home, to read on a phone or tablet!
A rugby ball suitable for giants has been created in England. The ball, made by Aramis Rugby, is nearly 20 feet long and 12 feet in diameter! It was lowered by helicopter, for a ceremony to award a certificate for being the largest rugby ball in the world. Now they just need some 20-foot-tall rugby players!
A TV interview about the pigeon poop problem in Chicago, was perfectly illustrated when a pigeon pooped on the man being interviewed. A pigeon at the train station let loose, right on Representative Jaime Andrade’s head! Visitors get pooped on all the time, so if you visit the Irving Park Station, bring an umbrella!
People are visiting a fine, upstanding citizen in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. It’s a telephone pole! The old pole will soon be replaced with a new one, so someone stapled a farewell letter to it. The note reminisces about lost pets, garage sales, and the changing neighborhood, and is signed Thanks, The Corner Pole.
Not all zebras have stripes. A spotted zebra was spotted in Kenya! The baby zebra is black with white spots, and living at the Masai Mara Nature Preserve. The week-old foal has a melanin disorder, which causes the unusual coloring. It really makes him stand out in a crowd!
Today is Apple Dumpling Day! Peeled and cored apples filled with butter, cinnamon and sugar, are wrapped in dough. After they bake in the oven, they’re like balls of delicious apple pie! It’s also Locate An Old Friend Day. Ask your parents about your first playdate, then say hi to your oldest friend!

The American Meteorological Society received reports from people in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, who saw a big fireball light up the sky Thursday night. A daytime fireball was seen the same day from Denmark, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands! September 12th was a popular day for meteorites!

The youngest police officer ever, was asleep on the job in Connecticut. Police rescued a baby squirrel from the middle of the road, and named him Officer Nibbles! They gave him his own office in a box, where he spent the night shift. A wildlife rehabilitator transferred Officer Nibbles the next day.
