Today is National Play-Doh Day! The squishy dough started out as a wallpaper cleaner, but Joe McVicker made a colorful version for kids in 1956. It’s Guacamole Day also. Smash up an avocado with some salt for the easiest guacamole ever! Then go outside and find some cool rocks. It’s Collect Rocks Day!

Gardens are Looking Up

Terry Garrett knew how much his brother loved gardening, so it made him sad to see him lose the ability once he was confined to a wheelchair. Terry developed Elevated Gardens, that stand 30 inches tall! People in wheelchairs can easily work on the small gardens. Now even people in nursing homes can keep gardening!

Wait for Free Museum Day

Are you thinking of going to a museum today? Maybe you should put it off until next Saturday, September 21st, when it might be free! More than 1500 museums across the United States will participate in Museum Day. You can print out tickets at smithsonianmag.org. Of course, Smithsonian museums in Washington DC are always free!

The Dolmen Dry Out

A drought in Spain this summer, has revealed the 7000-year-old Dolmen of Guadalperal. About 100 large stones, some as tall as 6 feet, stand around an oval space. The stones were mostly covered in water since 1963, when the Valdecañas Reservoir was created by flooding the area. The stones will disappear from view once the water returns.

Bees Welcome Here

Honeybees are getting some community help in North Carolina. The group, Bee Downtown, has created a honeybee corridor through some major cities. They’ve installed over 150 beehives on the property of different corporations, providing homes for 9,500,000 honeybees! The bees from each hive cover a 3-mile radius, so the zones overlap, and create a continuous pathway!

India Plans Plastic Ban

Starting in 20 22, the entire country of India will ban single-use plastics. Getting rid of plastic bags, cups and plates, straws, and small bottles, will reduce annual plastic use by 14,000,000 tons. It’s a good start, since most of the plastic ever produced on Earth, is still here, resting in landfills or oceans!
